Vaccinations

We advise that all our cats, dogs and rabbits are regularly vaccinated to provide protection against potentially fatal illnesses.  Their yearly booster visit also gives us the opportunity to give them a full check over and answer any questions you might have, as well as give advice on topics such feeding, worming, flea control, dental health and so on.  Animals should have yearly booster vaccinations - this is important as your pet’s immunity may fade with time without it, leaving them unprotected.

Dogs are vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Coronavirus and Leptospirosis.  Puppies receive a course of two injections given three weeks apart, and can be vaccinated from 7 weeks old.  After this they should get a booster every year.

Infectious Bronchitis (Kennel Cough) is a highly contagious disease spread between dogs in close contact, e.g. at kennels, shows, classes etc.  An intranasal vaccine is available which can help protect against it.

Cats are vaccinated against Cat Flu and Infectious Enteritis.  If your cat goes outside we also recommend vaccinating against Feline Leukaemia Virus.  Kittens can be vaccinated from 9 weeks old and receive two injections three weeks apart.  Adults should have a booster vaccination every year.

Rabbits can be vaccinated against Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD).  Both diseases are very infectious and potentially fatal – VHD can kill in 48hrs. Myxomatosis is spread by biting insects and can affect indoor rabbits as well as those outside.  Vaccination starts at 6wks for Mxyomatosis (booster every 6-12 months) and 10-12 wks for VHD (booster yearly).
